We live in a noisy world, constantly bombarded with sights and sounds of whatever others want us to believe are images of what we should want or need. We also contend with our insecurities that tell us we need to be something other than what we are. There is always a sense of constantly striving for something. We think we lack something and are on a never-ending journey to find a golden grail.
However, we are human, and humans need to rest. Even the most relentless of us need to stop occasionally. To take the time to evaluate where we are and if we are still moving toward the goal we had set for ourselves or veered off into the weeds. To determine if the base we’re building on is stable enough to support what we’re trying to do. We all need time to assess where we are, who we are, and what we want.
It’s hard to do if we are constantly in motion, never giving ourselves time to think about our decisions or how they have affected us. Even if we stop and allow ourselves to look at where we are, we are still inundated with the noise of everything around us. It’s hard to think or feel.
The way to get around this is to create a still and silent space. The stillness of the body is often easier than the stillness of the mind, but both are important. The next step is to create silence. Getting our minds to stop swirling is almost impossible, but being in a place of silence can help.
Balance is the key to creating a prosperous life. Finding time to encourage stillness and silence is the way to achieve that. It will make room for the universe to speak to you. To tell you what you need to hear while you block out what doesn’t serve you.
Silence helps you to focus on the things around you that you might not have seen if you were still part of the swirling energy of life. Subtle things can be powerful. Think of the ocean that wears away the coastline of a country. It doesn’t have to do it with pounding waves. It can be a trickle of water over time. Becoming still and silent lets you see the subtle energies affecting everything you do. It may be helping you, strengthening you. If so, it needs to be acknowledged and shown gratitude for moving you forward on your path. If the subtle energy is sabotaging you, it needs to be banished. Unless you find it, you won’t know.
Constant motion is encouraged in our ever-changing world. It’s exciting and interesting but not sustainable. Slowing down, giving ourselves time to be still and silent allows the universe space to whisper to us, show us the way, or give us an important message. That is the blessing of silence.
