Recently I was asked a question about the abilities of psychics and why there is so much variation in what they can do. What it comes down to is that we are human. If we were machines, we could do the same thing in the same way, but we don’t. We are a conglomeration of our upbringing, education, experiences, thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and abilities. If you compare every psychic on the planet to one another, you would be hard-pressed to find two that were exactly alike.

Take mediums, for example. They all speak to the dead. Some are able to tell you exactly how that person died, but others can’t. Some can tell you their last thoughts as they passed away, and some can’t. Some specialize in finding missing persons, dead or alive, while others can’t.

Each person with abilities gets to decide what they will do with those abilities. It’s up to them to decide which aspects of the work they will focus on and which they prefer not to deal with for whatever reason.

If you have a bunch of readers who use the same deck of cards to do readings, even if they use the same layout for the cards, each one of them would give a different interpretation to a spread. Why? Because each of them has a different way of accessing their gifts. Some get images they have to interpret. Others hear words or sounds that have meaning to them. Others smell things or get a taste. It’s their clair abilities giving them information from Spirit. They use the cards as a basis to work from and then use their abilities to fill in additional information which could be completely different from another psychic.

If someone expects to see several psychics and get the exact same answer every time, they might, then again, they might not. The universe chooses what message it will funnel to us and through whom. If they think you got the message the first time, Spirit may choose to give you another message instead through the next person you see.

When working with psychics, it’s best to leave your expectations at home. Pick someone who feels they might have a message for you and then listen to what they say. Even if it doesn’t make sense at the time, it might later on. If later on, you feel the message wasn’t relevant or the message wasn’t for you, then next time, pick someone else.

I have a friend who is so hard to read for that when she gets readings, the psychic often ends up giving my friend a reading that applies to her daughter or another friend. It annoys my friend, but I told her that I think it’s because her energy is so intense it’s hard for a psychic to connect to her energy while working to be the bridge between her and the universe.

The way I see psychic reading is this. The psychic tunes into the person they are reading for, then connects to the universe through their clair abilities, using cards or runes or whatever at the same time, to get information for that person from Spirit. If they are not able to connect with that person’s energy, it’s hard to know whether the information they are receiving is for them or someone close to them.

This doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with the psychic’s abilities. I’ve told this story before, but it applies here. I sat with a woman who asked me to call her ancestors. I saw them, but they refused to come forward. I don’t know why, nor did I care, it was none of my business. It was a tough reading, but it had nothing to do with me and everything to do with the fact that her ancestors wanted nothing to do with her.

In discussions with other psychics, I’ve heard them say that nothing happened when they tried to connect to get something for their client. No information was available. I know that sometimes psychics can get an explanation about why there is no information, such as asking about something that they can’t know about yet or asking the wrong question. Other times, there is silence, and the psychic can only apologize, change the subject, and ask about something else. If Spirit isn’t ready to divulge information, there is nothing anyone can do about it.

The other factor to consider when looking at psychics is what other abilities do they have? Most psychics are not just psychics. They are also mediums, energy healers, or as in the case of myself, a shaman. These abilities can come into play during a reading as well. I’ve often had someone come to me for a reading, and after listening to why they chose to sit down, we determined that energy healing was the better choice.

The best advice I was given years ago that I continue to pass on is to walk around the room a few times when you’re at a psychic fair. Get a feel for everyone’s energy and see who resonates with your energy. Once you find someone who “feels” right, that’s who you should get a reading from, even if you don’t understand why.

This is not a higher brain function logical deduction kind of thing. It’s a feeling, a hunch, a pull towards someone. I’ve had many people who sat down at my table and told me that they had no idea why they were there but felt so drawn to me they had to get a reading from me. I had one woman who had barely walked in the door zoom to my table and sit down, saying that she knew as soon as she walked in that she was there to see me. Had I ever seen her before? Nope. Had she ever heard of me? No.

The answer to the question as to why psychics are not the same is simple, none of us are the same. Like all interactions with people, you need to find the ones that resonate with you to hopefully get your questions answered. You can then find out what a particular psychic can and cannot do.
