How to Connect to Your Higher Self

In the previous post, I talked about how to connect with spirit guides. I also mentioned that I invited my higher self to a pool party. It was the perfect day, not too hot. We sat in comfortable chairs at the side of the pool and discussed my questions.

How I got there was a long time coming. I had been introduced to my higher self with the guidance of a Peruvian shaman. He was a white guy from Texas who somehow ended up training as a shaman in Peru. I never asked him how that happened because, to me, it never mattered. What mattered was that when he put on the poncho that he wore for ceremonies and opened himself up to the power he was connected to, I felt it. Regardless of him being a white guy from Texas, there was no doubt in my mind that he was and always would be a shaman.

He walked through an elaborate process where I officially met my higher self for the first time. Before then, I had channeled her to ask her brief questions. I can’t channel someone’s higher self for very long. It gives me a headache. I suspect it’s because the vibration of the higher self is so high my lower-vibration body can’t take it for very long.

Long story made shorter, I got to know my higher self and invited her to a pool party with my guides and others I won’t name now. We talked and laughed and got to know one another better. I was able to understand myself better as I had access to a different perspective of my life. She reminded me that even the most painful thing doesn’t last forever, and neither does the most amazing thing. She also reminded me that I needed to let go of things. Letting go makes room for something bigger and better to come in.

I’m sure you’re saying that’s nice, but the question is, how do I connect to my higher self?

You can connect in various ways:

Automatic writing

Meditation

Through dreams

Ask for signs

These are the easiest ways to do it. Let’s go through each one of these, and you can decide which ones might work best for you.

Automatic Writing.

It’s a form of journaling, but different. There are a couple of ways I’ve done it. The first is I have a question in my mind and open myself up to the answer being written. I think about the question and start writing. I don’t read anything until after I’m done. I want to give the universe or whoever I’m asking a chance to give me as complete an answer as they want. Before you begin, you can ask for protection from the universe, your guides, your ancestors, or all of the above. If there is a specific person or group you want to talk to, request an answer from them. I had a question for karma that was answered by doing this.

The other way you could do it is again, ask for protection first. It’s to prevent imposters from jumping in and messing with your session. The second is I write a letter, a short one, then allow them to write me a response. I go back and forth until I feel like I’ve gotten what I needed to know, or they tell me that’s all they can tell me.

Meditation.

Visualize a location where you want to meet with your higher self and see them there. Have your questions ready, or just allow them to tell you what you need to know right now. I have asked questions about my past that confused me, and felt better about it after hearing what else was relevant to the situation that I didn’t know anything about at the time. Of course, you can get some perspective on a current situation and a possible future one as well, but don’t expect to get all the answers. You won’t get them. Life has to be lived, and mysteries have to be unveiled in time.

Through dreams.

Think about your question or concern before you go to bed and ask your higher self, guides, or ancestors to tell you what’s important for you to know while you sleep. Before going to bed, make sure you have something to write with next to the bed so you can jot down your thoughts before they fade when you hit full wakefulness. Although depending on what they show you, it might stick with you through the day, and you can contemplate what it all means. If they need to, you might have a two-night answer as well, so be aware of that. Some situations are complex, and so are the answers to them.

Ask for signs

This is probably the easiest one that can be used with guides, ancestors, and of course, your higher self. If you have a decision to make and you are trying to decide between one course of action or another, you can say something like, “If I should choose x, show me a (choose something).” Choose something you wouldn’t normally see. Then put a time limit on it. If you see something, that is your answer. If you’re still not sure, ask them to show whatever it is to you again.

Example:

“If I should date John show me a coconut. If I should date Marcus instead, show me a bald eagle.”

“Please show me one or the other within 24 hours from now.”

You’ve seen the picture of a coconut on a mural as you were driving by it. You’re still unsure, so you say, “Just to confirm that it’s better for me to date John, show me a coconut again by the end of the day.”

You should see another coconut somewhere to confirm.

If you don’t get an answer at all, meaning you’ve seen neither a coconut nor a bald eagle, that is an answer. The universe thinks you can do better and to keep looking.

This doesn’t have to be just for dating. It can be for a job, a project, a new business, a friendship, or whatever you’re having trouble making a decision on, ask for a sign.

I remember once I had asked for a sign. I can’t remember what the question was now, but it was kind of a trick question because I asked to see a fish and didn’t leave the house. Instead, I was watching a documentary about a model who had gone back to her village in Africa for the first time in several years after becoming famous. When the model arrived home, her family was gathered around a table and eating fish. The universe will always find a way.

Don’t be afraid or hesitate to contact your higher self. They are there to help guide you toward your highest and best. They can help you on your way to becoming the version of yourself that you’ve always wanted to be. Pick one technique or try them all if you like to find one that works for you. Depending on what you want to know, one technique might work better. Take your time and enjoy connecting with your higher self.
