Can Mediums Connect to Imposters?

Yes. This is one of the drawbacks of being a medium. It’s possible to connect to someone other than who you wanted.

How is this possible?

Mediums are open doors between the living and everything else, including the dead. I’m going to get very detailed to make it clear what’s involved. The purpose is not to scare anyone off becoming a medium. It’s to lay it out for those thinking about developing the skills to understand what they might be in for if they’re not careful.

The mediums I know give people a lot of comfort and help them find the strength to move on after losing someone. It’s important that people know that their loved ones are still with them and a part of their lives, if only as a bystander cheering from the sidelines.

Here is a rundown of the pitfalls of taking the half-ass way of developing skills as a medium. As you can probably tell, I’m not a big fan of experimentation in mediumship. From my perspective, as a person who deals with demonic energy, the risk is too high. Speaking to an imposter has a much greater implication than people realize.

If you were calling out to the other side and asked to speak to your grandmother, you could get one of your grandmothers several generations back that doesn’t even speak your language. She could be cursing you out, and you would never know.

Another scenario is that you call out for your grandmother, specifically by name, and she doesn’t show up, but something else shows up in her place. It could be another grandmother in your family or someone else’s grandmother, or a demon that tells you it’s a grandmother. Unless you have protections in place, you will never know the difference.

So what if it’s not my grandmother? I just want to speak to a grandmother, does it matter?

Yes, it does. If your reason for wanting to speak to your grandmother was to get her advice on something because you trust her, what if she says something out of character? Would you think anything of it or think that she’s giving you another perspective?

There are souls wandering the Earth right now. They are trapped in between the world of the living and the final destination to complete the cycle. Emerging from Source and returning to Source. Some people don’t want to acknowledge they’re dead. Some don’t know they’re dead. Some know they’re dead but are waiting for someone alive to make a mistake so they can take over their body and live again.

Then there are the demons who also walk in the same space between the living and the final destination. Sometimes they are powerful enough to show themselves to humans with little sensitivity, but they can be felt by anyone paying attention, including animals. If, as a medium, you happen to connect to one of these, again, you might never know. They have been around much longer than we have, and they know how to manipulate us. Think of it as you’re speaking on the phone with a sweet little grandma who you envision is wearing an apron and smells like cookies, but then the screen lights up, the camera clicks on, and you see who it really is. Now, remember that most mediums don’t have that kind of vision. They get impressions, images, and mini-movies of things, all of it sent by whoever they are connected to, which could be a demon sending you exactly what you want to see.

Why would they do that?

The point is to get you to trust them to let them get closer to you. As far as I can tell, demons have one agenda, wreak as much havoc as they can. If they can take over your body, and ruin your life and the lives of those around you, so much the better.

Here is where I’m going to jump on my soapbox about Ouija boards. This doesn’t have anything to do with being a medium, but it’s related. It’s another case of an open portal. In this case, one that stays open to where and for whom no one knows. You can never be sure of who you’re talking to because demons can often read minds. If you happen to be thinking of the answer to the question you’ve asked to test to see if they are the real person, it can pluck that from your mind and repeat it back to you. How do I know that? I used to have one in high school, and I watched it do that very thing. Ouija boards are dangerous and invite all manner of negative things into your home and your life. Use one at your own risk.

Now back to the imposter thing. That was a worst-case scenario. One that is more common is that you call for your grandmother by name, and she gets shoved out of the way by someone else who desperately wants to speak. It could also be that, for whatever reason, your grandmother decided she didn’t want to talk to you. You could be calling for her and hear and feel nothing. Remember that they don’t have to speak to us. This behavior is likely from someone who hasn’t passed all the way through, or they have chosen not to speak to us for a reason. Those who have gone all the way through sometimes don’t speak to us because they have glimpsed “the big picture,” and there are things that we are not meant to know just yet, and they aren’t telling us jack until it’s time. A quick question to your guide asking if that’s the case will clear that up, and you can ask again another time.

Being a medium, for me, works a little differently. I usually only speak to ancestors, and the only spirits I want to talk to are the ones who have gone through the doorway of light and are happy to come back to help the living. I routinely bypass the ones that are wandering because they are stuck for a reason. Some of them are too angry or fearful to continue the journey. Some are too busy holding grudges to think about moving on. More about this in another post about ancestors coming soon. The point is that without a process in place that you get from training with an experienced medium, you could get yourself in hot water quicker than rain falls in a thunderstorm.

The other thing to consider is that if you plan to do this for the benefit of someone else unless you know for sure that you are speaking to the right soul from the other side, how is that helpful? If you connect to someone and it’s not the person they are expecting, what are you going to say? People go to mediums because they miss someone and want to connect with them again. Unless you can be reasonably sure you’re connecting to the right person, you are doing your client a disservice.

Keep in mind that being a medium does not mean that you have suddenly become the conduit for 1-800-dial-a-ghost. It doesn’t work that way, and it’s to your benefit to explain that to your client before starting the session.

Again, learning from an experienced medium can give you all the tools you need to start communicating with the other side in a way that eliminates most of the issues and ensures that you get connected to the right person. Let me say again that they might not want to say anything, or the message might be brief or long-winded. A teacher can help you navigate all the curves the other side can throw at you and give you suggestions on how to handle things that come up and make sure you don’t inadvertently connect to an imposter.
